YCC Bangladesh in Environmental Conservation

Saint Martin's Island in Cox’s Bazar is an Ecologically Critical Area (ECA) and a famous tourist destination due to its rich biodiversity and coral reef. However, the Island has been experiencing a surge in waste pollution, overexploitation of resources, and unplanned tourism at a concerning rate. In response, the Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) Bangladesh of Compass project recently organized an environmental conservation campaign on the Island with 40 youth trainees.

During the study tour, the youths engaged in a beach cleaning campaign, successfully disposing of 200 bags of non-biodegradable waste. They also rallied in the community to raise awareness among the residents and tourists and facilitated knowledge-sharing sessions with students from a local government primary school to promote environmental conservation.
