Compass and partners organized a sapling distribution and plantation event with MoCHTA Minister Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing, MP

Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of The Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, Mr. Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing, MP, inaugurated tree plantation activities at the Bandarban University campus. This event celebrates farmers from 17 villages of Rowangchhari Upazila, Bandarban district who will engage in the restoration of 200,000 saplings of 89 species in the degraded forest landscape this year. USAID’s Compass CHT-FLR Program, implemented by USDA Forest Service, Arannyak Foundation, and Tahzindong, jointly organized this event. The Minister expressed the importance of collaborating with Compass and other development partners to reap the long-term benefits of restoration efforts like eco-tourism, water recharge, and conservation. Bandarban District Commissioner, Forest Department, District Police, LGED, Vice Chancellor, teachers, and students, NGO leads, and local people attended the event. Engaging the communities, Compass is carrying out planting since 2021 with local and endangered species grown at the Greenspace Nursery Ltd. developed primarily for restoration by Arannayk Foundation. This season, 740 hectares of land in Rowangchhari will be planted.
